Documentary Wedding Videographer in Los Angeles
Real-moment wedding films in LA — ceremony audio, candid coverage, story-driven edits. No scripted scenes.
What does documentary wedding videography mean in practice?
Documentary wedding videography means your film is built from what actually happened — real vows, real ceremony audio, candid moments between guests, genuine speeches — edited into a coherent story from beginning to end. At Arrakis Films, documentary coverage runs 6–10 hours depending on your package, with a finished film of 4–10 minutes. We cover weddings across Los Angeles, Malibu, Pasadena, and destination events throughout California.
Is documentary videography right for you?
This works best for couples who:
Want to hear their vows again, not just see them in a highlight reel
Care about speeches, ambient sound, and candid moments — not just the visual edit
Want a film their parents and guests will actually watch more than once
Prefer an unobtrusive crew that stays out of the moment rather than directing it
Are considering adding Super 8 film footage for a vintage, archival layer alongside the digital coverage
Shooting documentary weddings in Los Angeles
LA offers a wide range of documentary conditions — from tightly scheduled ballroom weddings in Beverly Hills to relaxed outdoor ceremonies in Malibu and rustic venues in the San Gabriel Valley. Documentary style works across all of them because it adapts to the venue, not the other way around.
Specific LA considerations we plan for:
Outdoor ceremonies in venues like Malibu or Griffith Park — directional sun and wind affect audio placement; we position mics before the ceremony starts
Dark indoor venues in downtown LA or Silver Lake — we use fast lenses and adapt to available light rather than stopping the action to set up additional lighting
Traffic and timing — LA timelines slip; we build flexibility into our coverage plan so a late start doesn't cost you important moments
Drone footage — aerial shots of the venue and LA skyline are included in Endlessly Yours and Moving Symphony packages when conditions allow
Why add Super 8 to a documentary film?
Super 8 film stock captures ceremony and reception moments differently than digital — warmer, softer, with natural grain that reads as genuinely archival rather than a filter applied in post. In a documentary edit, a Super 8 sequence of your first dance or ceremony will look like actual home movie footage in 20 years. It's included in the Moving Symphony package and available as a paid add-on.

About Us
Andrew founded Arrakis Films after a decade in film and documentary work. His approach to wedding videography comes from that background: he thinks in terms of composition, sound, and timing rather than shot lists. He shoots with a cinematographer's instinct — aware of what's about to happen before it does.
Roma co-founded Arrakis Films and handles production, making sure the day's coverage runs smoothly so Andrew can stay focused on what's in front of the camera. Together they cover LA weddings as a coordinated team — photo and video in the same documentary mode, no competing styles.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Documentary wedding video prioritizes story and sound — real ceremony audio, speeches, candid moments, edited in the order the day happened. Cinematic video is typically music-driven and focused on visual aesthetics. At Arrakis Films, the two overlap: we use documentary storytelling with cinematic camera work and color grading.
-
Depending on your package, the highlight film runs 4–10 minutes. Shorter trailer cuts (1–2 minutes) are included in all packages. Some couples add a full ceremony edit or extended speeches cut as a separate add-on.
-
Yes. We offer combined photo and video packages so your stills and film share the same visual direction — one team, one aesthetic, no scheduling conflicts between two separate vendors.
-
Yes. We cover weddings throughout California — Palm Springs, Big Sur, Napa, San Diego — and nationally for destination events. Travel is quoted per project

Drone coverage is included in the Endlessly Yours and Moving Symphony packages. It's used for venue establishing shots, aerial city views, and outdoor ceremony locations — not as filler. Drone flight is subject to weather conditions and venue/airspace restrictions.
-
Yes. Documentary style works especially well for elopements — small, intimate, and full of real emotion without a program to follow. We cover LA elopements separately; see our LA elopement page for packages and locations.
