Vintage Wedding Photo in NYC – Arrakis Films
Vintage Wedding Films & Photography
Medium-format film photography for New York weddings, shot on a Hasselblad 503 by two filmmakers
For us, vintage wedding photography means real film. We shoot medium format on a Hasselblad 503, a camera that has been a fashion and portrait standard for decades, and we use it alongside our digital Sony A7R5. Film gives depth and fine grain, in deep color or rich black and white, and the occasional light leak becomes part of the picture.
We came to weddings from the film industry, so analog is close to us. It is the same reason we shoot Super 8 wedding films on the video side.

Film wedding photography: common questions
Yes, if film is the language you want for your day. We usually recommend pairing it with digital: film for portraits and key moments, digital for the low-light parts of the evening, so nothing is lost. Tell us early, and we will plan the whole day around the rolls.
Do you shoot entire weddings on film?
1
A Hasselblad 503, a medium-format camera that shoots square frames on 120 film. Medium format gives more depth and smoother falloff between sharp and soft areas than 35mm, which suits portraits. For digital coverage we use a Sony A7R5.
What camera do you use for film?
2
Film needs light. In a dim ballroom or after sunset we either bring our own lighting or switch to digital, so the evening is covered either way. Daylight portraits and the ceremony are where film works best, so we plan those parts of the day with the light in mind.
Can film handle a dark venue or an evening reception?
3
When will we receive our film photos?
4
Digital photos arrive within a month in a private online gallery. Film takes longer, because the rolls have to be developed and scanned first. We confirm the exact timeline in your proposal, so you know when to expect each part of the gallery.
