FEATURED FILM · los angelesWho shoots your Super 8 wedding film in LA
We are Andrew and Roma, and we shoot real Super 8 wedding films in Los Angeles. The camera is a vintage Braun Nizo 3056 loaded with actual 8mm stock, and this is the format couples come to us for. Super 8 can lead your wedding film or run through digital coverage as a layer underneath it. We plan the rolls with you, a specialized lab develops and scans them, and we cut and grade the film ourselves.
Award-Winning Wedding Cinematographer Los Angeles
THE FORMATWhat is a Super 8 wedding film?
It is your wedding day shot on real 8mm motion-picture film. The film runs through a vintage camera, goes to a lab to be developed and scanned, and then gets cut into a short highlight. What comes back carries grain, warm color, and soft light leaks. It looks like an old home movie because it is made the same way one was. Each cartridge holds about three minutes of film, so the format is built for highlights rather than full coverage.
LOS ANGELES LIGHT Why does Super 8 suit Los Angeles weddings?
Film is hungry for light, and Los Angeles has more of it than almost anywhere we work. Kodak's daylight stock was built for these conditions: the long golden hour over Malibu, hard clean sun in Joshua Tree, morning light coming through the trees at Griffith Park. Downtown interiors and evening receptions call for a faster tungsten stock, which we load for those hours instead.
Super 8 also reads as archival. A coastal or desert wedding shot on 8mm will look, decades from now, like something pulled out of a family attic rather than a file sitting on a drive. The cartridge is short and there is no screen to check, so every shot has to earn its place before you press the trigger.
BEFORE YOU BOOKWhat to know before you choose Super 8
Light is the other consideration. Film performs best in good daylight, which Los Angeles supplies generously, or under lighting we bring. We walk you through both at planning, so your timeline and your locations suit the format instead of fighting it.
Sound comes first. The Super 8 stock available today carries no audio track, so the film is set to music. If hearing your vows again matters, and for most couples it does, we record audio on the digital cameras and pair the two formats. That is the reason most couples book Super 8 alongside digital rather than on its own.
SHOOT AND LAB How is a Super 8 shoot different,
and how is it developed?
Film is finite and there is no instant playback, so we plan a Super 8 day far more tightly than a digital one. Before the wedding we mark on your timeline where the rolls go: the first look, portraits in the last hour of light, the exit, the first dance.
After the wedding the exposed cartridges go to a specialized lab to be developed and scanned at high resolution. Then we cut, grade, and finish the film ourselves. That lab step is part of where the character comes from, and part of why film takes longer to come back than a digital file.

“Beyond and forever grateful I chose Arrakis Films for my special day. They provided a comforting and reassuring energy, open to my vision and preferences, executed and delivered exceptionally. The edited photos were authentic yet professionally and gracefully polished. I look forward to booking them again.”
“Arrakis Films delivered both stunning photography and an incredible wedding film for our NYC elopement. Roma and Andrew work seamlessly as a photo and video team—the photos are beautifully composed and emotional, and the film is cinematic and heartfelt. What sets them apart is that both services feel equally important and equally beautiful. We love rewatching our film and cherishing our photos in equal measure. Highly recommend for any couple wanting artistic, professional work in both photo and video.”
“I couldn’t have asked for better photographers and videographers. They did an amazing job of capturing my wedding day. My wedding day was on May 17,2025. Not only were they supportive throughout the day, but they also made me feel special and beautiful. I’m grateful to have met Andrew and Roma. They helped me with everything, from the smallest details to the biggest ones. When you showed me the pictures and then the videography, I was blown away. The quality of the photos was stunning, and the passion and warmth in them were incredible. The video was even more impressive. I couldn’t believe you could create such a piece that we would laugh, cry, and watch over and over again. Thank you so much, Roma and Andrew, for being the team who captured my wedding day. I was blessed to meet you both.”
“Andrew was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. He has an incredible creative eye and artistic flair that truly sets his work apart. Every photo is beautifully composed and captures not just the moments, but the emotions of the day. Our gallery exceeded every expectation and perfectly tells the story of us. If you're looking for a talented photographer who creates timeless, artistic images, we highly recommend Andre. We will cherish these memories forever.”
“We couldn’t be happier with our wedding photos and video—they came out absolutely amazing. They captured so many intimate, beautiful moments that we’ll cherish forever. Also such wonderful people to have around on our wedding day! They made us feel comfortable, were a joy to work with, it felt like we’ve known them for forever!! We’re so happy we chose them to create these memories for us. Thank you for giving us something we’ll treasure for a lifetime!”
“I could not imagine my wedding day without Arrakis Films. They are without a doubt the most transparent, organized, and determined team to tell your love story, the way you want it, in a way that's beautifully authentic and heartfelt, including everyone present for such a classic wedding day. It's a little nerve racking picking a vendor as a bride. We thought that since they were both Photo + Video/ Super8 Film, it was a no brainer we wanted them to be our photographer. They go above and beyond to get the perfect shot when it matters most, and still when you're not looking, capturing the most perfect moments. It’s been such a gift from them to us to be able to relive a day for that flew by in the blink of an eye. The photos and the videos—are absolutely incredible. I am so in love with every single moment they have captured, and grateful for their guidance and ability to move from one part of the day to the next. I had absolutely no worries!! Especially with everything else going on. I find myself watching our Wedding Film, remembering each moment more and more as it was, and each time I realize that I’m smiling from beginning to end, every. single. time. These memories mean more to us than I can say (especially cause it went by too fast!). The team is truly amazing. They kept us laughing and easing all of our nerves, made me and all of the girls feel so beautiful, while capturing everything and everyone so thoughtfully and meaningfully. Words truly can’t express how grateful I am for Arrakis Films. With love, The Bride”

Common Questions
About Super 8 Wedding
Videographer
FAQS-
No. The Super 8 stock made today carries no audio track, so a Super 8 wedding film is set to music. When couples want to hear their vows and the toasts again, we record sound on the digital cameras and pair the two formats. Booking both is what most couples in Los Angeles end up doing.
-
Almost. Super 8 is a type of 8mm film that Kodak introduced in 1965. It has a larger image area than Regular 8, the format it replaced, so the picture holds more detail. When people say 8mm today they usually mean Super 8, and Super 8 is what runs through our Braun Nizo 3056.
-
You can, and a few couples do. Most pair it with digital. On its own, Super 8 gives you a beautiful highlight with no vows and no full record of the day, because the stock carries no sound and each cartridge runs about three minutes. Adding digital gets you the audio and the complete day, with the film running through it as the most nostalgic layer.
-
Three to six minutes when the film stands on its own. Each cartridge holds about three minutes of usable footage and a wedding day gives us a handful of them, so what survives the edit is short by nature. When the Super 8 is layered into a digital film instead, it runs through the whole edit rather than sitting in one piece at the end.
-
Yes, and it suits elopements better than almost anything else we shoot. They are short, usually outdoors, and built around one location and one good hour of light, which is exactly what film wants. A desert or coastal elopement is close to an ideal Super 8 day.
-
Yes. We shoot Super 8 at weddings across Los Angeles, travel through Southern California to Santa Barbara, Ojai, Palm Springs, and San Diego, and take the camera on destination weddings. We agree on travel logistics in advance.
-
Tell us on the first call. Super 8 comes included in Moving Symphony, our ten-hour package at $5,890. On our six- and eight-hour packages you can add it for $900, which covers the film stock, lab developing, and scanning. Either way we plan the rolls with you beforehand, because film is finite and where it goes has to be decided in advance.
