FEATURED FILM · new YorkMeet the Super 8 filmmakers behind your New York wedding
We are Andrew and Roma, filmmakers who shoot real Super 8 wedding films in New York. We work on a vintage Braun Nizo 3056 loaded with actual 8mm film stock, and this is the format couples come to us for. You can build your whole wedding film around Super 8 or add it to digital coverage, and we handle the developing, scanning and edit ourselves.
Award-Winning Wedding Filmmaker New York
THE FORMATWhat is a Super 8 wedding film?
A Super 8 wedding film is your wedding day shot on real 8mm motion-picture film instead of a digital sensor. The film runs through a vintage camera, gets developed and scanned at a lab, then edited into a short highlight film. It carries grain, warm color and soft light leaks that give footage the feel of old home movies.
Festival juries have recognized this work: Grand Jury Winner at FFTG Awards 2023, Best Short Documentary at Venezia Shorts 2021, Best Director at Seattle International Fashion Film Festival 2021, Best Cinematography at Prague International Film Awards 2021.
Kodak built Super 8 in the 1960s for family home movies, and that is why it works so well for a wedding: it strips the day down to its most honest moments. Each cartridge holds about three minutes, so the format favors highlights over full ceremony-to-send-off coverage. Super 8 is motion film, so it lives on our video side; if you want still film photography, we shoot that separately on a Hasselblad.
WHY FILMWhy we shoot on real Super 8 film
We shoot real Super 8 because film makes you think differently. The cartridge is short and there is no screen to check, so every frame has to earn its place, and that discipline shows on screen. Film stock also has a texture, depth and warmth that digital filters only imitate; the grain and the way light sits on the emulsion cannot be recreated in an edit.
Our background is cinema. Before weddings we spent more than a decade on short films, commercials for Adidas, Nutella and Mercedes, and music videos, and international festival juries recognized that work. We bring the same eye for a frame to a Super 8 wedding as we bring to our film work, which is why couples hire us as a Super 8 filmmaker rather than a rental camera with an operator.
IS IT FOR YOUWho is a Super 8 wedding film for?
Super 8 suits couples who want their wedding to look like footage someone might find in a family attic decades from now. It is for people who already love analog photography and film grain, who care more about mood and emotion than about crisp 4K detail, and who want a short, rewatchable highlight rather than a long documentary edit.
It also works beautifully for elopements and intimate weddings, where the quiet, hands-off nature of the format fits the day. If you want your vows and speeches recorded in full, you will want digital alongside it, and most of our couples book both. We are happy to tell you honestly on the first call whether Super 8 fits what you are picturing.
VENUES WE KNOWWhere we film Super 8 in New York?
We film Super 8 across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Long Island, Hudson Valley and New Jersey. Film loves natural light, so we plan the day around golden hour and the windows a venue gives us. A few New York venues keep pulling us back:
The Plaza
Palm Court, Fifth Avenue and a view over Central Park. New York luxury with real history in the walls.
Peconic Bay Yacht Club
A North Fork waterfront venue with docks, boats and wide bay horizons, made for relaxed coastal films with room to breathe.
The Skylark
a Midtown rooftop with Times Square, the Hudson and the Empire State Building in one frame.
Oheka Castle
a French-style chateau on Long Island with formal gardens and grand staircases, made for wide cinematic shots.
The Surf Club on The Sound
A New Rochelle waterfront club on Long Island Sound, with open water light and a ballroom that opens straight onto the shoreline for sunset shots
Reid Castle
A stone Gothic castle in Purchase, Westchester, with grand interiors and manicured grounds that carry the kind of cinematic scale you usually travel for.
New York asks for planning: traffic turns a 15-minute transfer into 40, some parks and landmarks need permits arranged in advance, and the famous spots stay crowded most of the day. We build the Super 8 timeline around real conditions and always keep a weather plan B.
FILM VS DIGITALHow is a Super 8 wedding shoot different?
Shooting Super 8 is more demanding than digital video. Film is a limited resource, there is no instant playback, and every cartridge counts, so we plan what to capture more tightly than on a digital shoot. Post-production is different too: instead of standard color grading, the exposed film is developed and color-treated at a specialized lab before we scan and edit it.
That lab step is part of what gives the footage its character, and it is also why film takes time. We treat developing and scanning as part of the craft, and once the scans come back we edit and finish the film ourselves, with nothing outsourced.
What Couples Say About us on Google
“Beyond and forever grateful I chose Arrakis Films for my special day. They provided a comforting and reassuring energy, open to my vision and preferences, executed and delivered exceptionally. The edited photos were authentic yet professionally and gracefully polished. I look forward to booking them again.”
“Arrakis Films delivered both stunning photography and an incredible wedding film for our NYC elopement. Roma and Andrew work seamlessly as a photo and video team—the photos are beautifully composed and emotional, and the film is cinematic and heartfelt. What sets them apart is that both services feel equally important and equally beautiful. We love rewatching our film and cherishing our photos in equal measure. Highly recommend for any couple wanting artistic, professional work in both photo and video.”
“I couldn’t have asked for better photographers and videographers. They did an amazing job of capturing my wedding day. My wedding day was on May 17,2025. Not only were they supportive throughout the day, but they also made me feel special and beautiful. I’m grateful to have met Andrew and Roma. They helped me with everything, from the smallest details to the biggest ones. When you showed me the pictures and then the videography, I was blown away. The quality of the photos was stunning, and the passion and warmth in them were incredible. The video was even more impressive. I couldn’t believe you could create such a piece that we would laugh, cry, and watch over and over again. Thank you so much, Roma and Andrew, for being the team who captured my wedding day. I was blessed to meet you both.”
“Andrew was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. He has an incredible creative eye and artistic flair that truly sets his work apart. Every photo is beautifully composed and captures not just the moments, but the emotions of the day. Our gallery exceeded every expectation and perfectly tells the story of us. If you're looking for a talented photographer who creates timeless, artistic images, we highly recommend Andre. We will cherish these memories forever.”
“We couldn’t be happier with our wedding photos and video—they came out absolutely amazing. They captured so many intimate, beautiful moments that we’ll cherish forever. Also such wonderful people to have around on our wedding day! They made us feel comfortable, were a joy to work with, it felt like we’ve known them for forever!! We’re so happy we chose them to create these memories for us. Thank you for giving us something we’ll treasure for a lifetime!”
“I could not imagine my wedding day without Arrakis Films. They are without a doubt the most transparent, organized, and determined team to tell your love story, the way you want it, in a way that's beautifully authentic and heartfelt, including everyone present for such a classic wedding day. It's a little nerve racking picking a vendor as a bride. We thought that since they were both Photo + Video/ Super8 Film, it was a no brainer we wanted them to be our photographer. They go above and beyond to get the perfect shot when it matters most, and still when you're not looking, capturing the most perfect moments. It’s been such a gift from them to us to be able to relive a day for that flew by in the blink of an eye. The photos and the videos—are absolutely incredible. I am so in love with every single moment they have captured, and grateful for their guidance and ability to move from one part of the day to the next. I had absolutely no worries!! Especially with everything else going on. I find myself watching our Wedding Film, remembering each moment more and more as it was, and each time I realize that I’m smiling from beginning to end, every. single. time. These memories mean more to us than I can say (especially cause it went by too fast!). The team is truly amazing. They kept us laughing and easing all of our nerves, made me and all of the girls feel so beautiful, while capturing everything and everyone so thoughtfully and meaningfully. Words truly can’t express how grateful I am for Arrakis Films. With love, The Bride”
BEFORE YOU BOOKWhat to know before you choose Super 8?
Neither is a real limit in practice. For vows and speeches we record professional audio on our digital cameras and mix the two together. In low light we bring our own kit, which can turn a dark venue into part of the look. We walk couples through all of this at the planning stage so the date and locations are chosen for real conditions.
Two things are worth knowing before you book Super 8. First, the film is silent: traditional Super 8 records no audio, so the final film is set to music rather than spoken vows. Second, film is hungry for light and performs best in good daylight or with added lighting.

FAQS-
No. Traditional Super 8 is silent, so a Super 8 wedding film is set to music rather than recorded vows or speeches. If hearing your vows again matters to you, we record professional audio on our digital cameras and pair the two formats. Most couples combine Super 8 with digital coverage for exactly this reason.
-
Yes. 8mm and Super 8mm refer to the same small-format motion-picture film we shoot on our Braun Nizo 3056. Super 8 is the 8mm format Kodak introduced in the 1960s, with a larger image area than the older regular 8mm. When couples ask us for an 8mm wedding film, this is what they mean.
-
Super 8 is included in our 10-hour wedding package and can be added to any other package. Our video packages run from $3,500 to $5,890 depending on hours and team size, and a 50% deposit secures your date. Because Super 8 uses real film stock, lab developing and scanning, it is priced as film work rather than as extra digital time.
-
You can, but most couples pair it with digital. Super 8 is silent and shoots in short cartridges, so on its own it gives a beautiful highlight film without vows, speeches or full-length coverage. Adding digital gives you recorded audio and complete coverage of the day, with the Super 8 woven through as its most nostalgic layer.
-
Usually three to six minutes. Each Super 8 cartridge holds about three minutes of footage, so the format is built for a short, rewatchable highlight rather than a long edit. We shoot across the key moments of the day and cut them into one film set to music, which is how Super 8 is meant to be watched.
-
After the wedding the exposed film goes to a specialized lab, where it is developed and scanned at high resolution. We then edit and finish the film ourselves. This hands-on process is part of why film takes longer than digital, and it is also part of what gives the footage its grain and character.
-
Yes. We cover all five boroughs plus Long Island, Hudson Valley and New Jersey, and we also shoot Super 8 weddings in Los Angeles and travel for destination weddings. See our Super 8 wedding video in LA. Travel logistics are agreed in advance.
