Elopement in Joshua Tree
Joshua Tree doesn't perform for you. The rocks don't move. The light cuts without mercy at midday and goes golden without warning at dusk. That's exactly why couples who want something that actually feels like them choose it. We shoot elopements in Joshua Tree as photo and film — one director, one vision, both mediums working together. No split day, no second-unit videographer. The same eye sees everything.
Ceremony
Joshua Tree National Park requires a Special Use Permit for ceremonies. We've shot permits at Skull Rock, Hidden Valley, and Cap Rock. Each location reads differently on camera — we'll help you choose based on light direction and time of year.
Desert portraits
The desert naturally flattens light in a way that's either boring or extraordinary depending on when you shoot. We time sessions around the desert's actual light — not around a shot list.
Film work
Super 8 transfers, cinema lenses, or hybrid documentary — the film format depends on what the day demands. We don't sell a package. We decide on location with you what the story needs.

Your photographer and videographer also need to be listed on the permit. We help our couples navigate the application process as part of the booking.

October through April. Summer temperatures regularly hit 110°F — the desert becomes hostile to people and equipment. Spring and fall give you manageable heat with dramatic afternoon light. Winter mornings can be cold (30s–40s°F) but the quality of light from November through February is exceptional

First two hours after sunrise or the last two hours before sunset. Midday desert light is flat and harsh — technically challenging even for experienced photographers. If your ceremony is permitted at noon, we'll structure the shooting day around the ceremony and position you strategically relative to the sun.

Yes — that's the core of how Arrakis Films works. One team, one director, both mediums from the same vision. Your photo gallery and your film are edited with the same aesthetic logic. We don't bring in a second vendor.

Popular permit locations inside the park include Skull Rock, Hidden Valley, Cap Rock, and Cholla Cactus Garden. Each has a different character on camera. Outside the park boundary, the town of Joshua Tree and the 29 Palms area have private property options that don't require NPS permits.
