One If By Land, Two If By Sea Wedding Photographer and Filmmaker
We photograph and film weddings at 17 Barrow Street, in the carriage house Aaron Burr kept his coach and horses in. Candlelight, brick, a private garden, and a portrait walk through the West Village between the ceremony and dinner. Everything below is our own work in that room.
The rooms are photographed empty before service starts. After that the candles are lit and nothing is this clean again.
OUR STYLEHow we shoot this room
Three rooms open into each other at 17 Barrow Street: the Main Dining Area, the Constitution Room and the Mezzanine, with a private garden and up to 130 guests seated. It is one of the darkest rooms we work in, and that is the point of it. Chandeliers on a dimmer, a live flame on every table, brick taking back what is left. We shoot at wide apertures on fast primes and keep the candle colour in the grade.
Speeches are recorded from the room's sound feed and a directional mic on camera, so the audio in your film is not the camera guessing.
OUR PROCESS
Portraits in the West Village
Portraits go outside. The West Village at dusk is half the reason couples book this address. Barrow Street, Commerce Street and Grove Court sit within four minutes of the door, and twenty five minutes out there is enough. We time that window backwards from sunset on your date, because dinner is served on the venue's clock and amplified music stops at midnight. Photo and film are one team, so the decisions about where people stand get made once.

The venue publishes no price. Wedding Spot lists an estimate starting near $13,664 for 50 guests, with a food and beverage minimum in place of a rental fee and a $550 ceremony setup fee. The Knot lists an average around $28,741. Both are third party estimates, so ask the venue for the current minimum in writing.

The address is 17 Barrow Street in the West Village, in a landmarked carriage house the venue dates to 1767. There are three rooms, the Main Dining Area, the Constitution Room and the Mezzanine, plus a private garden. The venue states 130 seated and 200 standing. Wedding listings put the indoor ceremony lower, at 65. The rooms combine differently depending on the floor plan, so confirm the number for your date.

No, but it decides the equipment. Chandeliers on a dimmer and candles on every table mean fast prime lenses and a photographer who has already metered this space. We keep the warm candle colour, which is why galleries from 17 Barrow Street look gold and low.

Outside, in the West Village. Barrow Street, Commerce Street and Grove Court are within four minutes of the door. New York does not require a permit for a hand-held camera or a camera on a tripod when you are not asserting exclusive use of City property. Where a location needs one, we file it in advance and the city fee is billed at cost.

Eight for most weddings here. The building is compact and the ceremony and dinner share it, so there is no travel time to pay for. Ten hours makes sense when getting ready starts uptown or when you want the rooms photographed before service begins.

Yes. On the eight and ten hour packages both of us photograph, so the second photographer is the other owner of the studio. Your date does not go to an associate you have never met.
